South star Vedhika Kumar is all set to make her Bollywood debut opposite Emraan Hashmi in the film The Body. The film will be directed by Jeethu Joseph, who is best known for 2013 Mohanlal-starrer Drishyam. “After a nationwide hunt and several auditions, we finally found what we were looking for. Vedhika’s character is of a young college going girl who has this innocence about her. She fits the role beautifully,” Joseph said in a statement.
Vedhika, a well-known actor in the South, shot to fame with her breakthrough performance as Angamma in Bala’s national award-winning period film Paradesi, for which she earned critical acclaim and awards.Vedhika has got experience in working across Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam languages.
Vedhika has featured has in a number of hit films like Kaaviya Thalaivan, Cousins, Welcome to Central Jail among others. While Emraan Hashmi who was last seen in Baadshaho is currently prepping up for his upcoming film Cheat India.
Though Vedhika, 30, made her film debut in 2006 with ‘Madrasi’, she only rose to success after signing ‘Paradesi’ in 2013. Since then, she has been a big name in the South Indian film industry.
However, ‘The Body’, her Hindi debut film, will add another language in her kitty.
The film will also have Rishi Kapoor in a pivotal role.

साउथ फिल्मों की एक्ट्रेस वेदिका कुमार बॉलीवुड में डेब्यू करने जा रही हैं। वेदिका इमरान हाशमी के साथ “द बॉडी” में नजर आएंगी। बॉलीवुड में डेब्यू को लेकर वेदिका ने बताया वह सही प्रोजेक्ट का इंतजार कर रही थीं।बॉलीवुड में डेब्यू को लेकर वेदिका ने बताया, ‘मैं सही प्रोजेक्ट का इंतजार कर रही थी और इसके लिए बहुत खुश हूं। मैं निर्देशक जीतू यूसुफ, निर्माता सुनीर खेतरपाल और इस अवसर के लिए वायाकॉम 18 मोशन पिक्चर्स की पूरी टीम की आभारी हूं। मैं इस रोमांचक यात्रा को शुरू करने का इंतजार नहीं कर सकती। इमरान हाशमी बहुत अच्छे एक्टर हैं। मुझे उनके साथ काम करके खुशी होगी।
फिल्म का डायरेक्शन जीतू जोसेफ करेंगे और प्रोडक्शन का काम संभालेंगे सुनीर खेतरपाल। वेदिका ने मलयालम, तेलगु, तमिल, कन्नड़ फिल्मों में काम किया है।
ये फिल्म साल 2012 में आई क्राइम थ्रिलर फिल्म द बॉडी का आधिकारिक हिंदी रीमेक होगी l द बॉडी को इंग्लिश लैंग्वेज में रिलीज़ करने के लिए ये नाम दिया गया था जबकि ये फिल्म असल में स्पेनिश है और इसका नाम EL Cuerpo है l बताया जा रहा है कि हिंदी में भी द बॉडी ही टेनटेटिव टाइटल होगा l द बॉडी में वेदिका का किरदार एक युवा कॉलेज की लड़की का होगा जिसमे काफी मासूमियत है.
सोभिता धूलिपाला को पहले ही इस फिल्म में कास्ट किया जा चुका है और ये वेधिका के रूप में दूसरी एंट्री है l फिल्म में ऋषि कपूर भी अहम् रोल में हैं l इस फिल्म की शूटिंग इसी महीने मुंबई में शुरू हुई है और अब अगले हफ़्ते मारीशस में भी शूट होगा l अब बात साऊथ इंडियन फिल्मों के ख़ूबसूरत चेहरे की l दक्षिण की चारों भाषाओँ में काम कर चुकी वेधिका मुंबई के किशोर नामित कपूर एक्टिंग इंस्टीटयूट की स्टूडेंट रह चुकी है l
साल 2013 में आई तेलुगु फिल्म परदेसी में अन्गाम्मा का बेहतरीन रोल निभा कर फेमस हुई वेधिका कुमार की उसी साल आई फिल्म श्रृंगारवेलन ने बॉक्स ऑफ़िस पर धूम मचाई थी l साल 2006 में अपना करियर शुरू करने वाली वेधिका ने अब तक 20 से अधिक फिल्मों में काम किया है l वेधिका ने कई सारे अवॉर्ड भी जीते हैं l
