Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar is in the news again, and this time for an advertisement. Kumar has received a lot of flak online for appearing in a commercial of Nirma washing powder that allegedly mocks the Maratha warriors.
The ad, which was released on 3 January, shows Kumar as a Maratha king. The actor is shown returning after a victorious battle and showered with flower petals.
When he says “khushiyaan manaao” (let us celebrate), a woman quips: “What celebrations…you come back with such dirty clothes which we now have to clean.”
To this, Kumar says in the ad the king’s army not only knows how to thrash enemies but also how to wash clothes. The entire army and Kumar then set about washing their soiled clothes.
A police complaint was also filed against Kumar at the Worli police station in Mumbai Monday. The complainant, identified as Suryakant Jaggannath Jadhav, said the people of Maharashtra were deeply hurt by the advertisement. He has urged the police to take action against Nirma Limited and the actor for “maligning’ Maharashtrian culture”.
The commercial was made by production house Collective Art Private Limited.

बॉलीवुड एक्टर अक्षय कुमार एक नामी ब्रैंड के वॉशिंग पाउडर का विज्ञापन कर कानूनी पचड़े में फंस गए हैं. टीवी एड में अक्षय को मराठा वॉरियर के रुप में दिखाया गया है. एक्टर पर मराठा वॉरियर्स का मजाक उड़ाने के आरोप लग रहे हैं. नाराज लोगों ने उनके खिलाफ पुलिस में शिकायत कराई है.
रिपोर्ट्स के मुताबिक, अक्षय कुमार के खिलाफ मुंबई के वर्ली पुलिस थाने में शिकायत दर्ज कराई गई है. जिसमें आरोप पर है अक्षय ने मराठा संस्कृति का मजाक उड़ाया है और लोगों की भावनाओं को ठेस पहुंचाई है. सोशल मीडिया पर अक्षय को काफी ट्रोल किया जा रहा है. लोगों ने इस विज्ञापन को वाहियात बताया है. एड बनाने वाली कंपनी की भी आलोचना हो रही है. ट्विटर पर #BoycottNirma ट्रेंड कर रहा है. लोगों ने ये एड करने के लिए अक्षय कुमार से माफी मांगने को कहा है.
टीवी एड में दुशमनों से जंग लड़ने के बाद लौटे अक्षय कुमार खुद अपने कपड़े धोते हुए नजर आते हैं. दरअसल, उनकी पत्नी उन्हें गंदे कपड़ों को लेकर ताने मारती है. पत्नी के तानों का अक्षय तुरंत जवाब देते हैं. वे कपड़े धोते हुए फनी अंदाज में डांस करते हैं. मराठा वॉरियर बने अक्षय के डांस करने और कपड़े धोने पर लोगों ने आपत्ति जताई है.
