As audiences who are constantly on the web, we are always looking for interesting new stuff to binge on. Lately, there is no dearth of stories catering to the Indian sensibilities, which has made consuming and creating original content very exciting. Set in the mid 1990s, MSPlayer’s upcoming drama-Thinkistan is a new web series that has us super intrigued.
A show based on the daily happenings of an advertising agency is not something that we’ve seen in the Indian web series space before. Naturally, it’s something that has us rather curious and excited. Plus, the interesting star cast only adds to its appeal.
The series features two characters in the lead. Naveen Kasturia of Pitchesrs fame, who also starred in films like Sulemani Keeda and Love Sex Aur Dhoka, essays one of the titular characters in the show, along with Shravan Reddy who has previously appeared in shows like Yeh Hai Aashiqui and Webbed. Mandira Bedi, who was last seen in the film, Tashkent Files will be playing an important role in the series and the 11 episodes boast of an ensemble cast with actors like Satyadeep Misra, Vasuki, Shraddha Musale, Jayashree Venkatramanan and Anandita Bose amongst others.
The series traces the story of a small-town guy, Amit (Naveen Kasturia) who joins the agency as the Hindi copy-writer and tries hard to be heard among all the English speaking people around him. On the other hand is Hema (Shravan Reddy)- an English-speaking, suave city boy who charms everyone and talks his way through all the big opportunities at work.
The core conflict in the show is the linguistic politics prevalent in the industry and the divide that comes with it, which is so stark and unfair. It explores the equation between colleagues Amit and Hema-which is tested by this dirty business of advertising. How this plays out and who ends up cracking the one amazing ‘baap’ idea at work that can turn the tables is something I am excited to see.
Thinkistan is directed by veteran ad filmmaker N Padmakumar. We can’t wait to enter the big, bad world of advertising and binge on all the drama that begins today.
